Yoga is an ancient practice that originated in India (exactly how long ago is up for debate). It is a means of synchronizing mind, spirit and body through postures (“asanas”) and breathwork.
Anyone can practice yoga - no matter their body type, physical abilities, gender, creed or religion. There are no prerequisites and no need for a certain level of flexibility or strength. These are not required, but are gained from a regular yoga practice.

To ensure your safety in any class remember that Yoga is not a competition! It is an individual experience so honor your body and go at your own pace. Be sure to make teachers aware of any injuries or limitations you have so they can offer modifications to better suit your needs. Rest whenever you must regardless of anyone else and never force your body to do anything it doesn’t want to. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it.
Yoga is generally done on a yoga mat. We have some available for your use, or you may bring your own. Sometimes instructors may suggest certain props to assist in getting you into the proper alignment for each position; we also provide these props.
Please plan on bringing some water to drink during / after class.
For your first class please arrive a few minutes early to allow a little time for filing out a waiver and release (you may print and fill out ahead of time).

Gentle yoga classes are typically described as appropriate for those who want a softer, nurturing, slow-paced, well-supported and relaxing practice. The approach hopefully includes carefully orchestrated movements, controlled pressure, and well-measured stretches, including range of motion exercises. Postures may be approached in gradual steps, with plenty of time to focus on breathing and repetition so that the practice is simple to do and easy to remember.
The most widely practiced form of yoga in the United States today, Hatha Yoga, is gentle and focuses on breathing, holding the pose and quieting the mind, all of which are the basic building blocks to any yoga practice. Hatha is a general term to describe a wide variety of yoga styles.
Kundalini Yoga is a science based on an understanding of the ecology of the human body. It is yoga of awareness. The art of yogic breathing techniques (pranayams), postures (asanas), and hand positions (mudras) are employed to invite optimal physical, mental, emotional and spiritual balance within the Kundalini yoga practitioner.
This practice supports creative expression and expansion, honors the great sea of yoga and our individual paths. In this space, our goal is to foster a heart-centered, joyful practice. Yogi Bhajan brought the pure lineage of Kundalini Yoga from India to this country in 1969 specifically to create teachers. Kundalini Yoga has flourished nationally and internationally to heal and uplift thousands of sincere yoga practitioners.
Gentle Yoga is a more basic set of poses and flows that are wonderful for every range of practice, whether it is your very first class or your thousandth. Mindful Yoga is a much slower and more intentional form of practice. We will spend more time at the beginning of class working with our breath, take more time to understand and feel each pose, both physically and energetically, and we will take a short time for meditation at the end of each class. In addition to learning about our physical body we will be learning about the other aspects of Yoga such as the energy body, the chakras, mantras (phrases to assist energy flow) and mudras (hand positions to assist energy flow) among other things. Vinyasa Yoga is a more challenging set of poses and flows working with matching our breath to movement. We will work with more challenging sets of poses such as balancing, arm balances, and inverting or going upside down
Mindful Yoga is a much slower and more intentional form of practice. We will spend more time at the beginning of class working with our breath, take more time to understand and feel each pose, both physically and energetically, and we will take a short time for meditation at the end of each class. MoYo Movement is a healing practice that combines yoga poses and the mechanics of mobility to engage the body and mind in movement. It improves stability and increases function and freedom. It encourages participants to stay in the moment and listen to their bodies’ messages. It is the means by which we can improve our movement and is itself an experience that brings us physical and soulful presence, connection and self-empowerment.
Restorative yoga is a series of relaxing, nourishing and healing poses held for longer amounts of time. This class uses props to open the body in a more passive way. It is designed to restore the body and mind.
Therapeutic applications of the principles of alignment into gentle muscle toning and stretching, joint releasing, along with restorative postures, breath-work, guided meditation and Yoga Nidra for pain management and deep release. Excellent for participants with injury, dis-ease, chronic pain, anxiety, depression or those seeking a gentle yet fulfilling class incorporating Ayurveda principles to heal the emotional body.
Considered the most complete yoga practice by many practitioners. It focuses on core strength, flexibility and balance while offering a more active practice that is part cardio, part muscle building. Taught through a series of Sun Salutations and long holding poses, this practice is well suited to complement current workout routines.
Vinyasa is a sequence of asanas or poses synchronized to the breath. It can be fast paced or slower and is often referred to as flow for its emphasis on movement. This movement is also sometimes called a "moving meditation" when incorporating a dharma or theme that flows through the class.
